The Veteran Gamers Episode 222 – Veteran Gamers Reunited!

Welcome to show 222 and the three of us are back together this week.

As for games, Chinny got around to playing Saint’s Row IV, Duke continues to play Starbound and Skyrim instead of The Last of Us and also went to the Midwest Gaming Classic with Sean Anderson and gave his thoughts on Oculus Rift and The Daddy played The Wolf Among Us episode 3, Dear Leader and BroForce!!!!!

Chinny is back to give us the news in his usual unique way, which included stats on Steam usage, the Xbox One update that makes it better and Sony making another Zombie MMO, how original.

We round out with Facebook, Emails and other community stuff.

Enjoy.

The Veteran Gamers Episode 221 – Live From The M25!

Welcome to this weeks show.

This week it is Just Duke and The Daddy, but between them they have played Starbound, Edge of Space, Infamous Second Son, Goat Simulator, Terraria and Monument Valley.

The Daddy does the news this week but I’m not sure it is up to Chinny’s high standard that he sets every week. We also have a special guest drop in and say hello and a new feature called Mr, Mr and Mr!

We round out with social media stuff and emails.

Enjoy

Video Games and Moral Development

In February, a research report out of Canada’s Brock University suggested that some violent video games could thwart a healthy development of morality in young people. In the words of researcher Mirjana Bajovic :

Spending too much time within the virtual world of violence may prevent [gamers] from getting involved in different positive social experiences in real life, and in developing a positive sense of what is right and wrong.

Obviously the same could be said about many other media, and the devil (as always) is in the details: What games were played, and under what conditions, and by whom, and etc etc.

It’s tempting for us gaming addicts to dismiss reports like these, especially since reflective analyses like the book Grand Theft Childhood show that research of this type is often misinterpreted and made hysterical by parents and news outlets. But I think it’s necessary for us to look carefully at this study, for a couple of reasons.
