No, there never was an actual NES Calvin & Hobbes video game, but it certainly would be cool! To help us imagine, Jeff Wysaski at Pleated Jeans came up with some would-be screenshots. Awesome stuff!
And for those who have never read Calvin & Hobbes: I pity you.

Good Lord! I love Calvin and Hobbes! I used to have ‘It’s A Magical World’ and another collection of C&H by Bill Watterson. I lost them in a move and I’ve been looking for them at relative’s house for years now. I’m reluctant to replace them as one was signed by my Grandmother, but I want to have them back so badly.
This would have been an awesome game. In far off celestial landscapes, astro-ranger Calvin and sidekick Hobbes do battle with intergalactic dinosaurs. Beat the level before your imagination is shattered by your mum calling you for dinner, or some huge, Somme-like snowball fight in the back yard against the girls. Oh, the memories you’ve brought back Duke, and I’m only two months behind with finding them again.
Also – shouldn’t the duplicator pictured on the back of the case be a ‘transmogrifier’, if I remember correctly?
Read the back properly now. It was!
