Saints Row Developer: 720 Used-Game Ban “Fantastic”

You know how there’s a rumor that the next XBox will lock out used discs? Well, one of the lead developers for Saints Row thinks this is spiffy.

In a post at #AltDevBlogADay, Jameson Durall writes:

I think this would be a fantastic change for our business and even though the consumers would be up in arms about it at first…they will grow to understand why and that it won’t kill them.

Makes me wanna not buy his game now.

    I bet you’re glad I only paid £1 for SR3 now! lol

No doubt some clever chap will find a way to pirate them anyway. I’m going buy a used copy of SR3 and give it as a gift to my nephew. Every little helps!

what a cock! the only way the public would except this idea is if the games price dropped to £20

If this happens, I’m going to swallow my pride and buy a PS4.

Weekend Confirmed had a good discussion about this andthe whole used game thing.
to me there are so many games out there, if I’m forced to only be able to play brand new games, then I’ll be waiting 6 months for price drops before buying, or will just not try out new games at all.

I can’t see how they’d get away with it without seriously damaging their market share, at least until PS does the same and they can control it on the pc too. I sympathise with developers who only get a tiny share of the income from a game, but the same applies to secondhand anything. If I bought a used car, I wouldn’t be expecting it not to drive because the designer didn’t get any of the money I paid.
