As we know, gaming is an expensive hobby and with rumours that the next generation of consoles wont support second hand games, make the most of it while you can.
So if you have £10 burning a hole in your pocket, what should you buy with it?
First up Rage, although the ending is a little abrupt and the open world is a little shallow, you can’t really go wrong for the bargain price as it really did look lovely and the shooting was right on point.
Next up Bioshock 2, now Chinny will tell that this game doesn’t exist and that there is no such thing as Big Sisters, but he is just in denial, because do you know what, this game is actually quite a lot of fun to play and the ending is far more satisfying than the original game, and at under a tenner for both Xbox and PS3 versions, why not? 10 hours of entertainment for the price of a pizza.
Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake finally came out in May 2010 after 5 years of development, was it worth the wait? Some would say no, but it is the best example of an episodic title, so for almost less than £5 it is a solid game.
Bulletstorm came out to pretty good reviews, with it’s OTT kills, dialogue and score making multipliers, most people thought that this game was a lot of fun and again the Xbox version is almost less than £5.
When Dead Space came out in 2008, most people weren’t expecting much, but if want to be scared witless and have to sleep with the lights on, then look no further, because this game will do all of that and more.
Vanquish is a post 2005 Japanese game that Duke actually likes, so if that isn’t reason enough to splash out less than £10, then I don’t know what is, go on give it a whirl, like Duke you might enjoy it.
Were you not impressed with LA Noire? Then you should play Mafia 2, this underrated game had a great story, good controls and a really well realised open world, a lot of people moaned that there were no side missions, but for me this was a positive in the game, as it kept you focused on the tight narrative.
The Darkness came out in 2007 and was soon forgotten, Chinny has been playing it again just this week and states that it still holds up well, there were a few control issues and some sections were overlong, but overall it was a solid game.
There are plenty of other bargains to be had and this is only a very small selection, but if you do fancy playing a game that you might have missed and for less than a tenner, you could definitely do worse than the ones listed above.

My vote goes to Vanquish. Forget about its story, it’s not about that at all. It’s about one of the purest, tightest, expertly tuned gaming experiences available this generation. Shinji Mikami has actually been in the news today with details of his first project since Vanquish. I was dearly hoping it would be Vanquish 2, but it’s actually a survival horror game codenamed Zwei.
My own recommendation would be Zen Pinball 2. For your tenner you’d not only get the game and six tables, but also the whole lot transferred over to your Vita for free, literally doubling your value. Pretty unbeatable, unless you’re not keen on pinball, that is. Heh.
All these are true, but right now, you can pick up the masterpiece that is Halo 3 for only two pounds. Two pounds! A bargain if I’ve ever seen one.
I got Gran Turismo 5 for a tenner from Amazon just before Christmas. Now that is a ridiculously large amount of quality content for my money, and it looks great on my 3D telly to boot.
My vote goes to The Darkness. The first game of this generation that I played through more or less in one go. Great story, atmosphere. I recently got Resident Evil 5 for a fiver. Not the most renowned version in the series but great with Co-op.
Orange Box.
oh, and that’s assuming you have played Mafia 2, which as I’ve said before is great !
It’s one of few games I’ve actually completed, and the only game I completed on 2 different platforms !
Mafia II is brilliant, RAGE has some of the best pure shooting levels ever and Bioshock 2 was really unfairly maligned. Great picks. I’d add Singularity to the shooter category. Ranks up there with Mafia II on the pleasant surprise scale. Part Bioshock, part Half-Life 2. Totally under appreciated. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is always really cheap now and quite good and Dungeon Siege III is kind of a cheap hidden gem in my opinion as well.
well i bought fallout new vegas for £10 3 weeks ago
I may sound like a broken record but Castlevania Lords of Shadow at CEX £10. Just a brilliant game. Vanquish was class though and just really good fun.
i would say rainbow 6 vegas, but its still £14.99 to download on xbl.
so my suggestion is dorito’s crash course.
Halo 3, Vanquish, Castlevania all good choices. My pick goes for Xenoblade or Dragon age origins.
Of the above id vote for vanquish.
Mafia 2 is a great game. What LA Noire wanted to be in some ways.
