Nintendo E3 – Say What?

So now it’s Nintendo’s time to shine, but will all the motion give us sickness or will Nintendo bring gaming into a whole new dimension.

Bad Start

The press conference seemed to start well with a demonstration of the new Zelda game, but things went a little down hill from there, luckly they picked up towards the end.

Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword

I’m sure that anyone who cares about Zelda will enjoy this new one. It looks like every other Zelda game out there, which is fine but the demo had me worried on how much I will need the motion plus to make this game work.

As you can tell from the demo, it didn’t go well and the controls seem to suffer from a lack of accurate response.

They did introduce a new whip, which should lead to some new ideas and puzzles that we have yet seen in a console Zelda game.

The game is due out in 2011.

Here is a better demo of the controls working how they should (I guess, I’m still not sure).

Mario Sports Mix

If you really can’t get enough of Mario and want to see him play sports with all his friends and you have yet to play the 50 other Mario Sports games, then I guess your in luck. Now Mario gets to play Volleyball, Basketball and Ice Hockey in 2011.

Massive Scoop: Reggie says Wii is awesome

Yes Reggie and Nintendo showed no sign of backing down from the Wii. Insisting that it is still selling well and that there are people buying games for the platform and not just playing Wii sports. He also mentioned that there are still people yet to buy the Wii, I’m not sure dead people count Reggie, surely everyone alive a brought one of these things by now.

Wii Party (kinda like Mario party but with Mii’s)

Goldeneye 007 Wiimake

Now I went on record saying that I wouldn’t get excited about a remake of Golden 007, because I honestly thought it would be the same game, but a little better looking, with some online multiplayer tacked on. This however looks like a remake I can get on board with. This version of Goldeneye has the new Bond with full voice acting, same levels but you can tell from the trailer that they have been very careful in this remake. I have to admit, I weed a little when seeing this trailer. Get all this 007 goodness this fall.

Disney’s Epic Micky

Here’s is a game that I think a lot of people will be quick to pass on, but coming from the guy who worked on the first System Shock is a game that is like no other on any platform. I think the art style and unique gameplay of Epic Mickey will make this game a must for Wii owners. Also a cool aspect of this game is that each 2D level is based on an episode of Mickey Mouse. The level we see in the demo is based from the classic episode of ‘Steam Boat Willy’. One to watch for sure.

Metroid other M

To me this game looks like they had no idea what to do with it so they made it a bit of everything. Third person, first person, platforming, ball rolling ,action game. We did get a release date though, August 31, so not long to wait.

Donkey Kong Country

It gets a ‘meh’ from me, I enjoyed the Donkey Kong games on the SNES but it doesn’t look like anything new, just same old but looks nicer. Comes out “this holiday”.

Nintendo 3DS

Yes we all knew about it and it is here. Nintendo made a big deal about there being no 3D glasses for the new DS, and I think rightly so. The biggest flaw with 3D is that you need glasses to see it. Not with 3DS, it’s all done with the naked eye. I didn’t think I’d be into a 3DS but a have to say that it’s looking nice and we all knows it’s gonna sell, a lot, a heck of a lot.

The 3DS also allows users to take 3D pictures with the two camera lenses on the outside. There was also mention that the graphical power has been updated and it can now use WiFi and download data even in sleep mode.

The 3DS also has a slider so you can adjust some of the focus of the 3D when playing games and taking pictures.

Nintendo also mentioned that 3D movies would be able to work with the new handheld, though they were clear that this will not be available at launch, it is still something they are “looking into”.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

I’m not a massive Kid Icarus fan but this does look like a game perfect for 3D, so lets hope it all works.

Other Games announced for 3DS

3D Nintendogs

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

DJ Hero

Saints Row (I’m guessing a DS version similar to GTA Chinatown)

Kingdomhearts

Resident Evil (This is going to be a new Resident Evil game)

Assassin’s Creed

Metal Gear Solid (Not much known but thought to be an original Metal Gear made for 3D)

This was a very close a second for me because Microsoft did not blow me away. I’m almost positive Reggie is a robot created by Nintendo. The bit where they started telling the crowd to stop messing with the Zelda demo was priceless. I think this pretty much settled though that Nintendo will be doing more of the same. It’s really hard to guage the 3DS without actually trying the thing other than by… When was the last time Nintendo made a portable that did not obliterate the competition? While I have no clue how many people are actually going to buy Sony’s Move or Microsoft’s Kinect, I can almost guarantee the 3DS will sell well but it may take a while to start up like the DS did.

The MGS game is actually a remake of PS2 classic MGS3: Snake Eater, which I find absolutely amazing as it is my favourite game. I was going into E3 hoping for an FFVII remake on PS3 but I have been surprised by a remake that if I ever saw coming, would’ve been for the PS3. That game has sold the system for me, and I’m a Sony fanboy.

    @ Quanrian

I disagree, I believe the 3DS will be out of stock for a long time, similar to the Wii’s early days.

I’m with you Choco, I think the 3DS stole the show for me, I found it interesting when Jack Tretton, made the comment that no other console was bringing 3D, I guess he didn’t watch the Nintendo keynote.

Good showing for Nintendo, while Microsoft and Sony are fumbling in the motion control market, Nintendo are proving why they are the real innovators here.

Looking forward to Zelda and that Goldeneye game looks cool. Play my Wii a fair bit more now I have installed my 20 odd games on a harddrive. So quick and easy to fire one up.
