Onlive – So Does It Work?

So OnLive finally launches, and the big question is, does it work?

Above is a 15 minute demo by a PC player to give us an idea on whether it works or not, looking at it, it works pretty well give or take a few frame rate issues and some minor lag. Considering everybody thought it was going to fail miserably, maybe it wont.

It’s early days, but the initial signs are positive.

I know I’m being paranoid, but this video is VERY slick and polished. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it’s some PR release from OnLive itself..

I’ll reserve judgment until I get my own hands on it.

Ur man Greg DeLacey is getting this for 3 months so expect some honest opinions shortly

Shady know I was still signed in as myalter ego from the jrpg thread. The above comment were not the opinions of peter m.

Peter — That assumes that Greg D. will give honest opinions. But we all know he’s in the pocket of Big OnLive. He’s a tool of The Man™!

Ok after a bit of searching I came across this blog from a user and it pretty much mirrors what the video guy says http://blog.wolfire.com/2010/06/Thoughts-on-OnLive its an interesting read, and the implications are huge.

My internet has been going on and off lately, you’re telling me that if I had this as my main gaming portal I couldn’t play games during those internet drops. We’re not there yet.

bottom line while im not decrying what the video shows this is still in the test pahse and not in the real word of fair user policies and so forth we also have no indication of what time of day this is wether it was 20 minutes before school out time or the middle of the night. also if there is lag in single player what happens at a busy time of day in something like cod?

Chinny, you do have a point, but then millions of Steam users have the very same issue, as Steam games won’t work unless you are logged in, but you don’t see them complaining.

Also I guess that’s the fault of the ISP’s.

What’s most interesting to me is that it has been live for two days now and there are no, it is crap stories around.

Don’t get me started on Steam! That reminds me time to fire up Portal and knit myself a jumper while it starts up
