It’s a fact of life that people like to be scared, not sure why, but we do. Be it ‘Head On A Stick’ in Wolf Creek, Freddy Krueger in Nightmare On Elmstreet or Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, we all enjoy scary moments. So I thought I would highlight some of my favorite scary moments from games, which might mean you need one of these.

Franklin D. Roosevelt famously claimed that the only thing to fear was fear itself. Any serious gamer or film aficionado would refute that. Games have been striving to evoke primal fear for decades. Many fail, but some succeed and damage the psyche for years following. Can games ever surpass the film industry for influencing our terrors? What are the tools that make us throw down the joypad in paralysed fear? Are there truly greater horrors in this world than Justin Bieber and Twilight becoming phenomenons?
