The Last of Us

Postby Tusken77 » 08 Dec 2011, 15:52

A huge game is being revealed at the VGAs on Saturday. The trailer is full of big statements by Geoff... "A PS3 exclusive game unveiled that no one would believe", "A massive announcement that no one is going to see coming", "Something absolutely mind-blowing from Sony", "Comes from an absolutely amazing developer", "Believe me, people will be pretty shocked when they realise what's been going on behind the scenes."

It looks like it might be The Last of Us

All very intriguing. There's a 40 page thread over on gaf speculating about it...

Definitely a reason to watch the show on Saturday!

Spike TV in the US. It starts at 1am Sunday morning for us this side of the pond. You'll be able to find a channel on justin.tv showing it, that's where I'll be watching it.

It's being streamed live this year. This may or may not work for us....

"A massive announcement that no one is going to see coming" - Check.

"Something absolutely mind-blowing from Sony" - Check.

"Comes from an absolutely amazing developer" - Check.

"Believe me, people will be pretty shocked when they realise what's been going on behind the scenes" - Check!

Even with the hint in Uncharted 3, I was amazed when I saw the Naughty Dog logo at the beginning of the trailer. Apparently they've been working on this for the past two years. How not even a whisper about it has come out all this time stuns me.

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog. “Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”

Stu, you've been singing Resistance 3's praises (rightly so, hopefully I'll be playing it over Christmas), this should tick a lot of boxes for you. A regular guy, not a soldier, making his way across the US and just trying to survive. And a seamless journey it will be - as we know, there's absolutely no loading in Uncharted, chapters smoothly blend into each other. A story told with the highest production values.... ND's graphics, characters, voice acting, animation, story, soundtrack, pacing. One thing is certain....it'll be special!

Who needs PS4?
