I'm with Bongo. Completely loving it and it lives up to my expectations. I'm about 7 hours in and I'd say that so far it's a bit more linear than the last 2, but this is the wrap of the story so there's a lot of plot to get in. The score is beautiful, it's already packing a punch emotionally and ramping up the tension for what's to come. My Shepherd imported fine, but I admit that would have really put a dampener on things if it hadn't worked.

The Kinect integration is great. I like the fact you can use it as much or as little as you like. It really enhances battles being able to say commands and use powers without pausing to select off the wheel. Dialogue is so much better, I've not been using the controller at all for that and it's just flowed beautifully. If your sensor isn't picking up your voice you could try recalibrating as has been suggested above. However, mine's in front of the tv speaker (only place I have to put it unfortunately although it's not ideal). If the tv volume is high, I find it doesn't hear me over the other sounds, so I keep my volume at a moderate level if I want to use Kinect. So check that too because it shouldn't need to have you shouting.

I'm feeling like I'm playing a different game to you all.

You say you can use Kinect in a battle??
hmm. I don't even have that option.

powers?? ok, now I'm totally lost. I have a gun, does that count? I can do stuff to it, but not with kinect.

MY kinect is all set up and configured just before I started playing, so that's not it, I think it has trouble with my accent, but really, what's the point, I want to play a game with a controller, not watch movies and shout at my TV.

Just a couple of hours in. I've arrived at the Citadel for the first time and so far it's every bit as great as I had hoped. It's linear so far, but the other 2 also start off linear and then open up a few hours in so I'm expecting choices to come a bit later.

Anyone else think Ashley has had a bit of work done in the last couple of years? Maybe it's just that she has her hair down.

One other thing - it couldn't import my Shepard's face which I had all the way through 1 and 2. I've tried to make it as close as possible but it's not quite the same. Might seem a bit petty, but I still don't quite feel like it's "my" Shepard.

Here is a quick guide I found handy.

Not your fault you talk funny. ;-)

Rob

Kinect Commands Guide

Tips & Tricks
•To give commands with the Kinect, speak clearly and use the keywords listed below.
•Giving commands to Cmdr. Shepard is as simple as stating the command.
•Words like “Open” or “Examine” allow Shepard to interact with the environment, while weapon names or ammo types will automatically switch. For example: Open, Examine, Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Pistol, Incediary Ammo, Cyro Ammo, etc.
•To gives your squadmates commands, state the name of your squadmate followed by a command keyword. Some commands require the aiming reticule to target enemies or areas.
•For example: Say “Garrus Incendiary Ammo” and Garrus will switch to Incendiary Ammo. Or, say “Ashley Follow” to command Ashley to follow you. Say “Liara Attack” and use your reticule to have Liara attack an area.
•Voice commands are best for avoiding the squad command menu. Issuing special attack commands with Kinect is much faster than using the on-screen menu.

Powers is just what I call abilities, be they tech, biotic, etc. You can have a couple mapped to the buttons but otherwise you have to select them from the wheel for both you & your squadmates. Having the ability to just verbally command them makes the battle flow better. So you say 'Liara warp' or 'overload' and it does it without you having to pause. A little blue microphone flashes up at the top left of the screen to show it heard you. Red microphone flashes up when it heard you but couldn't work out what you said. I know when the demo was reviewed there was some feedback saying Scottish accents weren't being recognised, and no doubt there's a few more, so that could be it. It does appear to understand Mancunian.

Robin, I'll try your cheat sheet tonight !

as for battle commands, does the fact I am playing this as a STORY effect it perhaps? as I don't get that at all.

so, I found an option in Kinect settings that lets you change dialect.
Set mine to UK, that seems to help a little.

but I don't seem able to 'command' anyone to do anything.

also, I'm in the Normanday, having just left the Citadel, and in Journal I have 2 missions that read like I need to go somewhere, well I'll be damned if I can get anyone to fly the bloody ship there.

feck me this game pi$$eS me off.

I just want to try to get the experience so many people seem to find in this game, but all I'm doing is running around, having dull as hell talks (I mean who cares about a toothbrush that cost 6000 credits??) watching cut scenes and shouting at my TV, which isn't really listening anyway.

Ok Stu, when you are on the Galaxy map on the control deck of the Normandy, anything that flashes white is a place where there is a mission, and if you move your curser over it, it will tell you what mission it is. Click on it and you will begin that mission.

You will also need to go to solar systems which aren't glowing to pick up war assets and side mission items etc by scanning these, but be careful as Reapers will appear and you will have to get out quick. You will need to do this to get war ready and get the best possible ending.

To pick up side missions is a bit weird as all you do is eavesdrop on people in the Citadel, and they will appear in your journal, you then go back to them once you have what they want.

Go to the bottom of the Normandy to upgrade armour, weapons and also to buy upgrades, and when you do go on a mission make sure you allocate upgrade points to your squad, you can auto allocate by pressing Y I think.

You don't need Kinect, just press right bumper in battle, highlight a power and whatever is highlighted in orange on screen will get blasted.

Also dependant on you character don't forget to enable whatever special ammo you have got, this is usually quick press on right bumper.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Stu.
will try it tonight.

It's been so long (and so many games) sine I played ME2, that I know I have forgotten many of the controls of the game, but no manual, and a $hit ton of cut scenes to sit through is making it tough to get into for me.
like I said initally though, it's most likely me.
I got no attention sp, Oh look a puppy !!
